We understand you may have questions about how 100 Women Who Care - CYR operates, and we’re here to help! Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about our group, meetings, donations, and membership. Our chapter was established in September 2015 by Laurie Brakeboer, with Jeanette Butler, Judy Poulin, and Samantha King joining to form the inaugural organizing committee. The original 100 Women Who Care group was founded in November 2006 by Karen Dunigan in Jackson, Michigan, U.S.A. Today, the movement has grown to include over 700 chapters worldwide, uniting communities through the power of collective giving.
To be considered for selection at a meeting, organizations must meet the following criteria:
Location: The organization must be based in Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Newmarket, or the surrounding area.
Charitable Status: It must be a registered not-for-profit charitable organization capable of providing tax receipts for donations.
Established Operations: Only organizations that have been operational for at least one full tax year and have filed and reported their taxes will be considered. Startups are not eligible.
Local Impact: At this time, national or international charities are not eligible. However, local branches of national charities that will use the funds exclusively within our catchment area may be considered.
Ineligible Organizations: Sports teams, events, sponsorships, political groups/programs, and service groups (including third-party fundraisers) do not qualify.
Members (or teams) who have signed the Commitment Form, attended at least one meeting, and are in good standing are eligible to nominate a local organization. To nominate, members must complete the nomination form and submit it no later than the Sunday before the meeting.
At the meeting, all submitted nominations are placed into a basket for a random draw, and two organizations are selected. The nominating members will then present a 5-minute case for why their nominated organization should receive the donation, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.
We strongly encourage members to participate by nominating deserving local charitable organizations in need. Please note that if your nomination form is drawn, you must be present at the meeting; otherwise, another form will be selected.
After the presentations, all members in attendance (one representative per team) will vote via paper ballot. The votes are then tabulated, and the organization with the most votes will receive the donation for that meeting.
If a member is unable to attend a meeting, they are still required to fulfill their donation commitment. There are three convenient ways to donate:
Online Donation: Use the 100+ Women CYR link provided in the email sent after the meeting to donate directly to the selected charity. This method ensures you receive your tax receipt immediately. (Please note: Do not donate through the charity’s Canada Helps page to ensure proper tracking.)
Mail a Cheque: Write a cheque payable to the chosen charity and mail it to:

In-Person Drop-Off: Contact Susanne at suecapp@sympatico.ca to arrange a convenient time to drop off your cheque at her home in Newmarket.
An email is sent to all members within 30 minutes of each meeting with the subject line “Donation LINK.” This email includes details about the selected charity and instructions for making your donation. Members can also find this information on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Members (or teams) are required to submit their donation by cheque to 100 Women CYR no later than the Friday following the meeting. Timely contributions ensure the selected charity receives the funds promptly, allowing us to make a meaningful impact together.
Please Don't Give Independent Donations!
The mission of 100+ Women Who Care CYR is to create a significant collective impact by making large donations as a united group. Together, we aim to contribute $10,000+ at a time, amplifying the power of each member’s individual donation as part of a larger contribution.
Additionally, tracking your donations is essential to ensure you receive proper credit, maintain eligibility to nominate charities, and participate in voting at meetings. By donating through our group, you help us achieve our shared goal of making a meaningful difference in our community.
Meetings are 60 minutes, however, there is the opportunity to socialize and enjoy a meal before the meetings as dinner and registration begins at 5:30 p.m.
Yes, as only registered not-for-profit charitable organizations will be sponsored by the group. Cheques are written directly to the charitable organization and NOT to 100+ Women Who Care Central York Region. Tax receipts will be issued directly by the charitable organization.
Of course you can! We are always seeking women who care! However, in order to vote they will need to sign a Commitment Form and become a member. Otherwise they are free to observe.
Absolutely not! 100+ Women Who Care Central York Region is organized and operated entirely by volunteers. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected charity!
